Understand the fibre optic tests that are required to prove that advanced fibre infrastructures can support high data rate applications (10Gb/s, 40Gb/s, 100Gb/s) as well as extended wavelength range operation for DWDM and CWDM systems.
Apply the full power of modern multi-purpose test platforms to carry out these tests including bi-directional OTDR testing, chromatic dispersion, polarisation mode dispersion and spectral attenuation. Process the results swiftly and efficiently using test report software to provide full system documentation.
Pass the exam to gain Certified Fibre Characterisation Engineer (CFCE) status. This course covers all topics covered on our separate Advanced OTDR and Advanced PMD & CD courses.
Who is this course for?
This course assumes that you have previous experience of OTDR testing and provides experience of using modern multi-purpose test platforms for testing typical telecoms links.
Objectives
At the end of this course you will
be able to:
explain the significance of modern fibre specifications including G.652.A, B, C & D, G.655.x & G.656
appreciate the characteristics of the infrastructure that can impair system performance
design and plan test programmes to meet customer and operational requirements
explain test specifications and describe the purpose of OTDR and OSA testing
analyse OTDR traces and event tables
analyse OSA scans and tables
describe what chromatic dispersion is and how it is measured
describe what PMD is and how it can be measured
perform full fibre characterisation on installed fibre systems
interpret the results of fibre characterisation and map against application support criteria
Course dates in UK
This course is available as a scheduled public
course and as a company course for upto 6 delegates from one organisation.
Current prices are valid until 31st December 2010. Prices are quoted excluding UK vat (17.5%). All courses are quoted as non-residential. On all public courses and other courses held at OTT own premises the price for the course includes lunch & refreshments, but not accommodation. Refreshments & lunch are not provided by OTT for courses held on customers' own premises.
*A London weighting of £100+vat per day is charged on company on-site courses run within the M25.
There is no other additional charge for travelling expenses or tutors' accommodation for on-site company courses in mainland UK unless agreed in advance. Company courses are quoted for up to 6 delegates which is the maximum for all practical courses. Certain other courses may take up to 8 delegates at an additional cost.
From time to time special offers are available and are published on the website. The published list prices will be charged unless otherwise agreed for a specific order by written quotation by email/fax/post. Written quotations are assumed to be valid for 30 days from the date of the quotation.
If you are looking for a less advanced course then have a look at the CFCT, which spends more time on OTDR testing and concentrates on the practicalities of carrying out the actual measurements efficiently, verifying that the acquired data is valid.
