Responding to customer demand, OTT is launching a pair of new optical networking certifications to provide people with the right training at the right level for their involvement with optical networks.
The use of algorithmic trading systems demands the fastest possible network connections, and many network equipment and service providers are making a lot of noise about their "low latency" solutions. But do their claims stack up? What about the performance compromises that low latency designs may bring? What else can be done in the optical domain to reduce transit times through the network?

In the last few years there has been a process underway of transferring qualifications which came under the scope of the National Qualifications Framework into qualifications accredited under the newer National Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The qualifications in the new QCF are made up of small units so you can build up useful learning that is relevant to you and achieve qualifications bit by bit. Every qualification in the QCF is made up of units. Every unit has a credit value that tells you how long the unit takes to complete.
The world of telecoms and long haul communications is seeing many developments that are leading to potentially hazardous power levels being deployed, especially with the more widespread adoption of Raman amplfier technology. The Enterprise arena has not been exempt from this issue either and increased power levels mean that for some datacomms users such as in data centre environments then power levels, exceeding class 1 limits, that are not 'intrinsically safe' are being deploted for the first time.

In July OTT's Technical Director, Richard Ednay, was invited to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for two weeks to train two groups of engineers from Mobily to attain the CONE certification. Courses were presented in Riyadh to engineers who were of an excellent standard and really keen to learn as much as possible, despite the fact that English was not the first language for many of the delegates.
