Summary: here’s the basics you need to know

Access to these resources is provided free to you by OTT because you are attending a live or virtual course with one of our training partners. We need to record and verify your basic personal data in order to provide and control your access to these resources. You will find more information on how we record and store your basic data here: https://www.ott.co.uk/resources/privacy-policy/

The resources on this site are for your own personal use in furthering your knowledge of fibre optics and optical networking. Please use a strong password and keep your log-on details secure and don’t pass them on to other people. The items that are downloadable from the site are for your own personal use so please don’t hand them on to others. Just enjoy, learn, and hopefully recommend. Please don’t try and gain access to the resources for a course that you aren’t attending or haven’t attended. You know you’d have more fun attending the real thing after all. Which one do you want to do next?

Our use of the data you provide to us

By completing a course resources registration form you are authorising us to use the information you give for the purposes of verifying your right to access these resources and for maintaining control of your access. Your use of the resources is tracked in a basic way using cookies as described below and in the privacy policy. We use this to help us understand whether the resources get used and what gets used most, so that we can build and improve on the resources in the future. As we move to virtual and online coures the amount of data and reasons will increase.

We are the awarding body for the certification attached to the course you are attending. We don’t do anything with your data that you wouldn’t expect us to need to do in order to assess, award, verify and record your certification. We’ll keep the record of you achieving your certification until the company closes, is sold or until you tell us not to. If the company is sold then we would expect that your data will be passed to the purchaser so that they can continue to maintain a record of your achievement of a certification/s. We keep your data secure and we don’t share your data with anyone other than the training delivery partner organization that delivered your course and also the IEEE if you are receiving an IEEE certificate as well as an OTT one.

You will have access to the resources for six months by default, unless any other terms have been specified to you separately. We store course progress, including completion status, quiz scores, assignments uploaded. We store information about you for as long as your account exists.

We also retain the data provided by our partner (your direct training provider) about you and your achievements in exams and assignments on the live certifications courses. This is stored securely and not shared with anyone else. We retain these records because it allows us to prove traceability of your achievement of the certifications. Retaining this information menas we are able to provide copies of certificates to you in the future should they be required.

Your use of the data we provide to you

We aim to keep your personal data secure, as discussed. So by registering and using the resources available on this site you are agreeing to do the same with ours… that is you are agreeing to respect OTT’s copyright, thank you.

No part of these resources may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, for any purpose, without the express written permission of Optical Technology Training Ltd. Do feel free to show your colleagues or contacts these resources for the purpose of demonstrating the content of the course you have attended, but please don’t share your log-on or provide the materials you have downloaded.

Cookies and how they affect logged-in trainees

We cover our use of cookies on our privacy policy. But here is some information on how it specifically affects you as a registered user. As a registered trainee who is attending or has attended one of our certification courses, we will collect the data you provide to us when you complete a registration form to obtain access to the online resorces to support you course. By completing a course resources registration form you are authorising us to use the information you give for the purposes of verifying your right to access these resources and for maintaining control of your access. We are the awarding body for the certification attached to the course you are attending. We don’t do anything with your data that you wouldn’t expect us to need to do in order to assess, award, verify and record your certification.

We do use some necessary cookies to enable the functionality and security of our site, such as showing you a cookie notification banner and showing what cookies are on the site.

The course resources (logged-in only) area of the site uses functional cookies to make the membership and learning management systems work. Without these we would be unable to enable password reset facility, show you your progress in a course and scores for exercises, accept assignment uploads etc. The software we use to make the course resources works also logs the dates you login to the site.

Liability

I understand that the CFCE/CONA/COFI certification granted by OTT does not constitute an actual license to practice or to provide services, when such a license may be required by relevant, local laws.
I understand that the OTT CFCE certification does not in any way imply that OTT assumes responsibility or liability for my actions, and I hereby indemnify OTT and my training provider from any liability resulting from my actions.

A few of the interactive resources available on the site may have been produced some years ago. We can’t guarantee now the currency of all of the resources. Every effort would have been made to ensure that the information was accurate, reliable and represented current versions of the relevant standards at the date of production. However you may find they now quote earlier editions of Standards for example or don’t mention products which came along later. But you should have learned enough on your course to make your own judgements and have been given guidance on where to check for the most up-to-date information (such as Standards documents). You’ll find links to Standards bodies and standards in these resources too.

Termination of access

If we have reason to believe that you have broken these terms, then we reserve the right to withdraw your access to the site before the end of the stated free access period.
